With death circling me, this is my best shot.   Alexa I thought my life was settling down, falling into a routine. Boy, was I ever wrong. It only took one disastrous selfie sent to the wrong number and I caught the attention of Vincent Goodman. Worse, I can’t let dear, sweet Vin find out that the scandalous photo sent to him was originally intended for his notorious older brother, Tristan Goodman. I also can’t let my older brother, Sam, discover I’m falling in love with his boss whom he is convinced will only bring me trouble. Trouble does come for me. Death has always circled me, forcing me to choose between the safe arms of family, or the man who is far more dangerous than any monsters.   Vincent Meeting Tristan at the café turned into more than getting a cup of coffee. I didn’t expect to receive a sinfully hot photo from an unknown number, and I sure didn’t expect it to be from the shy barista.   While we form a relationship, unfortunately, I also begin to connect her brother to crimes happening within the restaurant. My business partners, Tristan and Mark, want to punish her brother Sam to the extreme. But calling for her brother’s head would cause me to lose Alexa’s heart. Sam might be involved in more trouble than I am, and he’s endangering Alexa as well. I’m determined to keep Alexa alive and make her mine. I’m just not sure how, but I’m going to give it my best shot.

Instead, I calmly ask, “How are you?”

         “Better.”

A nervous laugh escapes me. “Yeah, about to be a whole lot better, right? After a cup of coffee, everybody feels better.”

He crosses his arms and then leans on the counter toward me. His biceps bulging through his white shirt. The scent of cedar and clean soap reaches my nose, causing my body to involuntary lean toward him. He’s so handsome and alluring. Vincent Goodman isn’t the bad boy like his brother, but those eyes are so warm and sincere, combined with his powerful body, he seems more like the man who would take on the worst of the worst to save and protect you. I bet it would be heaven to have those arms wrapped around me while getting lost in his eyes. His lips turn up into an adorable smile as he says, “Or maybe, seeing your beautiful face brightened my day.”

Is it cheesy? Yes. Did I just swoon? Also, yes. Do I want to act like a middle school girl who’s crush just acknowledged he thinks she’s pretty, that the very sight of her, and I quote, brightened his day? An astounding yes. Cue internal freak out.

Now time to say something back. I straighten my shoulders and smile. “Lucky for you, here you can have both.” Wait, both what? My face? Cringe.

He looks at me with that panty-melting smile, while I want to drop to the floor and crawl away. At least that came out more confident than I felt saying it. It’s not a lie. He can have all the coffee and as much of ‘my face’ as he wants.

“I am indeed a lucky man, then.”

“What kind of coffee would you like?”

         “Mocha cappuccino.”

“Anything else?” I say in one breath. What if he asks for my face? I should kiss him, then, right?

         “How about your danish?”

         “My…my what?” I blink.

Slowly, he lifts his hand and points at the glass case next to the register. His eyes never losing their contact with mine, “Your sweet danish. My mouth is watering at the thought of licking it down the center.”

Oh, sweet mother of all. My danish is now a soggy mess, and I’m pretty sure my heart stopped. What the fuck do I say to that? Quick, think up something flirty. Think up something hot and flirty and seductive and –

“Suuure. You can have my danish to lick…” Oh God. I squeeze my eyes shut and pray for the ground to open and swallow me whole. This is painful. His low chuckle has me opening one eye to look at him.

Gail Haris believes in fairytales, love, and laughter as the best medicine.

She was born and raised in a small town in the Midwest. After graduating with a degree in Mass Communications, Gail went on adventures traveling in America and Europe.

But her favorite adventures are the ones where she gets lost in a book.

Her love for reading and traveling lead her to attend book conventions. Those conventions gave her the encouragement she needed to combine her passion for creativity and storytelling. Using coffee and her imagination, she loves writing contemporary romances that blend laughter and true love out of every day chaos.

When Gail isn’t day dreaming in front of her computer, she’s busy raising her two daughters with the man of her dreams. She loves traveling with her family, binge watching television series with her husband, singing Disney songs with her daughters, and having huge family and friends get-togethers that involve lots of food and usually a cake.

She hopes by following her own dream of becoming an author, she can set an example to her daughters that dreams can become a reality. Maybe she can encourage you too.

Never stop believing in love, dreams, and yourself. And coffee…don’t give up on coffee and books ;)
